The Iranian government is considering extending the oil embargo it imposed on France and Britain to other European countries, reported Monday a semi-official Iranian news agency. The director of the National Iranian Oil Company Qalehbani Ahmad said, according to the Mehr report that Tehran could halt oil exports to European Union members who have "hostile acts" against Iran. Qalehbani estimated that oil prices could exceed $ 150 a barrel, without specifying when. Oil prices rose Monday to its highest level in nine months to $ 105 a barrel Monday in Asia after Iran announced it would halt exports to France and Britain. Tehran applied preventive cuts in response to European Union sanctions imposed, to take effect in July, to pressure the Iranian government over its controversial nuclear program. Since the embargo was announced last month, Iranian authorities have said Tehran must introduce its own sanctions immediately before the European countries to find alternative suppliers. Iran sees Spain, Holland, Greece, Italy and Portugal its major European customers. Some of these countries could stop importing Iranian oil. France has played down the impact of the Iranian action saying that the oil companies stopped buying galas and oil to Tehran. Qalehbani said Iran's oil demand increased in recent weeks and that Tehran is seeking contracts "unconditional". Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that the dispute between Iran and European countries will not last long. "Relations between Iran and Europe can not be idle a long period," the official quoted by the official news agency IRNA. "European countries can not continue without needing to Iran, and Iran can not believe that Europe does not need because they are complementary parts," he added.
